Renita Walker and Veronica Lilly
didn’t know each other when they were both accounting students at North Metro Technical College – but they wound up getting a job together at the same accounting firm of Chaffins and Wurst in Marietta. Renita, a Cartersville resident, received her diploma in accounting in 2002, following a layoff from a local manufacturing company. “My former boss encouraged me to go back to school,” Renita said. “I believe the education I received at NMTC gave me more confidence.”Veronica, a resident of Marietta, received a degree in Computer Information Systems at North Metro Technical College in 2000. “I decided to take some accounting classes,” Veronica said, “and I fell in love with it. While still completing my accounting degree, I was offered the job working as a staff accountant in Doug Chaffins’ CPA office.”
Both Renita and Veronica praised the encouragement and training they received from their accounting instructor, David Payne. “He has a gift for teaching in a way you can understand,” Renita said. “If it wasn’t for him, I probably would not have continued my education.”
“I would encourage anyone to attend North Metro Technical College,” Veronica added. “The instructors and staff are there to aid you in your education. Everyone there wants you to succeed and they help you do it any way they can.”
